RESULTS: SMSS Round #1, Big Flat HC (east side), Apr 24

It's 2013.  It's spring.  It's time once again to determine South Mountain club supremacy.

My weather forecasts proved to be optimistic, as we did indeed encounter rain.  For 3-4 minutes, really HARD rain, and accompanying strong wind gusts.  However, there was no lightning, and we're not afraid to get our bikes wet.  Well, at least 12 of us aren't.

Actually, it was archetypal summer thundershower band (without the thunder).  We started riding in calm, warm weather.  A few sprinkles turned to rain which turned to hard rain with wind gusts and a drop in temperature which quickly gave way to a gentle rain that in 15 minutes or so was spent and then, glory be, the sun began to pop out again and the temperature rise.  Of course, all of it may have seemed a bit abbreviated for me, as I was traveling east to west through the duration.

Anyway, to learn more about the SMSS, see the SU Cycling Club website.  Strava segment for yesterday's ride here.  Results below.

* When a team doesn't field a unit on a given day they're given a score as if they did have three riders present, but finishing after all other scored riders.

AVC takes the early lead in a squeaker over South Mountain Velo.  Shaping up to be an exciting battle between those two!

Unfortunately, with the Eastern Collegiate Cycling Conference championship event this weekend, many of the SU students were absent.  I'm assured they would have been out in force otherwise.

I don't know what RHR's excuse is (I'm looking at you, Jon, Micah).

NEXT WEEK:

South Mountain Summer Smackdown Race #1.  Big Flat HC (EAST SIDE!).  Wednesday, Apr 24.  6:00 pm.

Meet at the Arendtsville Fair Grounds.  A map.

ECCC race wkd #6: The Shippensburg Scurry

A BIG race weekend!

I mean, it was our home race, so obviously a super BIG event for the SU VelociRaiders.  (Do you like that?  I just made it up.  Two seconds ago.)

A lot to say (and it's pretty late in the saying), but I'll reserve this post to documenting results.

And results we had...two big wins from Lori Incitti in the Women's Intro (time to move to C's?) and some great results from freshman Kevin Griffin in his first collegiate event, including a win on the Horse Killer RR course in the Men's DII.

A few pictures here.  For many, many more pictures (all courtesy of Dr. Michael Drager), click here.

Read race reports on the pipes here, here, here, and here.  Or peruse the ECCC blog reel here.

There are also photo streams wandering about...some are linked on road-results.com where, incidentally, you can also find full results.

Many thanks, again, to all who participated, either as racers or volunteers.  Thank you!
