ECCC race wkd #3: The Philly Phlyer
Some pretty exciting racing over the weekend, made no less so by the Milan-San Remo-like conditions that prevailed on Saturday. The day started off nice enough for the TTTs, then began to get nasty with some big snowflakes, then the snow tapered off and it looked like things would be dry for the afternoon, when the snow/sleet/hail began in earnest again. The men's B race finished in miserable conditions. The men's A field decided a lap and a half in that the conditions were not ride-able and the riders neutralized themselves and called it quits.
Ten SU riders went to contest the races in Philly. Nine saw action in the team time trial and circuit races on Saturday, one more joined the crew on for the criteriums on Sunday.
A great weekend result for Jeremy White in Men's C field, nudging out NYU for second place by winning the sprint behind a lone lead rider from Penn State. Jeremy sits fourth overall in men's C, division II; sixth overall.
After missing his start Saturday and having to chase the whole race (to still finish 29th of 70), Kyle Irwin was anxious to redeem himself Sunday and was an instigator from the beginning. He placed 2nd and 3rd in the two mid-race sprints and ultimately finished a respectable 5th.
Philly also marked a return to racing for Erik D., who rounded out the men's intro podium with a third place on Sunday.
All the results can be found here.
After three road weekends, Ship Cycling has put 11 unique riders to the line, accounting for a total of 45 rider entries on the season.

ECCC race wkd #2: Columbia/Stevens
This weekend Alan Royek and Kyle Irwin made it to the races in NY/NJ. At the Columbia University sponsored Grant's Tomb, Kyle Irwin showed he means business, both by showing off his new carbon rig and with an impressive 3rd place finish in the DII field. At Stevens' road race on Sunday, Alan impressed by out-sprinting a group of six chasers for 3rd in the men's A. You can see all the results here.
For those keeping count, after two weeks we've had seven unique riders race a collective total of 21 events. This coming weekend at the Philly Phlyer I expect a fleet of Ship riders at the Philly Phlyer. Good stuff.

ECCC race wkd #1: Rutgers
Shippensburg University outperformed expectations this weekend at Rutgers, which hosted the first collegiate weekend of the ECCC road calendar. Six SU students each completed three events, for a total of 18 rider events...and three victories.
On Saturday morning, we saw riders sprint through a 2.2 mile time trial. Jeremy White posted the fastest time in the Men's C2 field, covering the course in 4:54. Michael Poland blew the bibs off the Men's D2 field with a winning time of 5:15.
We also had two race virgins there to play in the bike games. Lori Incitti posted a 6:59 in the Lady's Intro (for 15th) and Ben Heisey pulled in at 7:03 (for 36th). A big congratulations to those two!
In the afternoon, Michael, riding a high from his TT victory in the morning, sprinted from an elite selection for his second win of the day in the Men's D2. Jeremy finished strong in the C2, taking second in the field sprint behind a break of three for fifth overall.
Sunday, in the circuit-race-that-was-really-a-crit, Alan Royek animated the Men's A by bridging to a break and eventually finishing second in a three-up sprint for third. Jeremy had another top 10 finish in the Men's C2, and Michael finished forth in the Men's D2.
Great work from everyone. I'm especially proud of our two intro riders for giving it a go.
