Im registered for soyoco this weekend...Cant wait! Weather is looking great!
While we were riding today, I was telling the guys about a site that seems to have to killer deals on bike parts and apparel. Everything seems to be atleast 50% off. They feature an item for a certain amount of time then switch to another.....really wish I had some extra cash to blow.......www.chainlove.com

su youth bike rodeo this friday

Shippensburg University Cycling Team Announces Youth Bike Rodeo
Shippensburg, Pennsylvania -- April 14, 2009 -- On Friday, April 17, 2009, students from the Shippensburg University Cycling Team will host the First Annual Spring Youth Bicycling Rodeo. Intended for children 14 years of age and younger, the event will include activities such as helmet fitting, minor bicycle maintenance, safety tips, and a skills-testing obstacle course. The event begins at 4:30 pm and will continue until 7:00 pm.
The rodeo will be held on the Shippensburg University campus, in the parking lot between the student recreation fields and the Luhrs Performing Arts Center. While there will be no adult specific activities, parents are encouraged to stay and participate. All participants should bring a bicycle and wear a helmet.
About The Shippensburg University Cycling Team: The Shippensburg University cycling Team is organized as a university club sport. Its members compete in road and mountain bike events in the Eastern Collegiate Cycling Conference (http://collegiatecycling.org/eccc/) under the auspices of USA Cycling (http://usacycling.org/). The team is funded by the university student senate as well as the generous support of area businesses including Sunrise Computers and Electronics (http://www.digitalsunrise.com/), Historic Preservation Services (http://www.hps-preservation.com/), InGear Cycling and Fitness (http://www.ingearcycling-fitness.com/), and localcyclist.com. The team holds regular training rides, open to all area cyclists, in the beautiful rural farmland and mountainous terrain in Cumberland and Franklin Counties.

Every story has 2 sides
Hard men? We were there, in fact, we started at 5:30 because no one else showed up, and I guess we thought you were not going to make it. Jon, Cody, my self and new guy Brian were all ready to race 15 minutes early. Actually, I got over 3 hours and over 50 miles in the rain and cold today. You three may be faster, but that doesn't mean your tougher.

So much for my weather predictions. It was wet. Cold. And way more windy than I had expected. A perfectly wonderful April day. Channeling a little Belgium spring goodness in the south-central pee-aay.
April showers...make for hard men.
(It took about 10 minutes in the shower afterward to warm up my hands and feet.)

Ear and Race Weekend
I forget where we were at but someone made a comment to Chop that he might be the only cyclist with gauged ears, welllllllll, Adam Hansen of Colombia High Road sports the look too. If you check here stop the video at 21 seconds to see them.
Watching some of the Mark Cavendish videos has gotten me pumped about this weekends race. It seems like forever since our last race and this weekend should be sweet. Dr. Goates said he is racing too so I think that makes at least four of us going down. I wanted to race tomorrow at the TNR but the weather looks terrible again. Two Tuesdays of bad weather hurts. Fortunately, Thursday looks nice, I think at least everyone racing this weekend needs to ride together and hopefully a few others.

Epic Ride
Just to add on to McChops post, this was one of my favs so far, great ride on an epic day!!!
Good day for some climbing
Today was absolutely beautiful so Joe and I took full advantage of it by doing some climbing. It seems that climbing is now the in thing to do, seeing as how Joe and I are doing every chance we get, and Dr. Goats just killed us with some massive climbs on Thursday.
Today we climbed S. Mountain 3 times and apparently that was not enough for us because we decided to head over to kings gap for a little more. In all it was a good day; beautiful weather and 4 painful climbs. It was most epic.
*Man I love to hate climbing!!!

the friday NODoGR, 04.03.09
Pronounced "no-dogger"...re-introducing the Friday NODoGR, the Friday No One Gets Dropped Ride!
Leaving the hockey rink (on campus, the parking lot between the recreation fields and the Luhrs Performing Arts Center) at 3pm. The plan is to ride about an hour on relatively flat roads (but this is south central pee-aay, so nothing is entirely flat). However, depending on who comes the ride time and terrain can be modified.
Let me stress that NO ONE GETS DROPPED on this ride. So, anyone the least bit interested in cycling is invited and should come. We'll only ride as fast as the comfort level of the slowest rider.
TWO THINGS:
(1) The weather doesn't look all that good for tomorrow. Fifty percent chance of showers. Rain cancels this ride.
(2) The modus operandi for the ride will be that you RSVP (by responding to shipcycling@yahoogroups.com) by noon on Friday. If no one wants to ride, then I'll do something else.
Hope for clear weather and I'll see you tomorrow.

The Killers lead singer looks like my Bio prof.
Congrats to Joe, Ryan, Chop and Dr. Goates for surviving in the rain this weekend. I rode Saturday and Sunday but without the excitement of cheering fans. I did find a new farm that had sheep and some bulls, woooo. My bike always looks nice with some mud on it. Sadly, it will soon be relegated to secondary bike or hopefully to my girlfriend. I'm going tomorrow to test ride a Cervelo S1. If everything goes well I should be bringing one home by sometime next week. I got my Trek 1000 for Christmas in 2006. I've had no problems with it and for a first road bike it has served me well. If I hadn't got it back in 2006 I probably would still be a running my butt off thinking that something has to be more fun than this. Moving along,..... I'm pumped about the TNR tomorrow. The weather looks great and I took the day off so I can definitely throw it all down tomorrow afternoon.

tnr, a report from the field
What was it? The weather?
Well, whatever it was that kept last week's crowd away, we still had a great ride with a select group of six. Including two first-timers...David & Luke Bateman. A hearty welcome to the Bateman boys.

On tap tomorrow: tnr weather forecast is sunny and mid 40s. Wear your high socks and you'll be fine. The action will warm you up.
If there are 10 or more again (there will be) we'll do an A group, B group thing. Probably a three-minute handicap for the A group. The goal for B groupers is to stay away...or to hang on to the A groupers when they come by.

Domination in Delaware
Chop, Cody and I just finished dominating the ACME store across the street. Cody and Chop just killed and dominated a rotisserie chicken. I went with the eight piece Fried Chicken and batted six for eight so I will have a little post race food tomorrow. This is our second meal since four. We went to Bob Even's around four and also dominated in style. We all got the beef pot roast over mashed potatoes and a biscuit. Cody and I also added a large pancake as a topper. The waitress also took her fair share of generous comments towards me, but she was having a bad day so we accepted her kindness. I also just downed half a container of Pringles.
The racing today was brutal with some serious climbing. Around mile seven a long climb through the woods really took its tool on my legs. They didn't split the mens C field today so I was up against some new D1 opponents. I wasn't feeling that hot after the first lap so I raced as smart as possible the second lap because I was hurting. The group didn't really break up the first 17 mile lap but seven miles into the second lap in the hills I pulled up to the front and got in a 10 man break. We actually did some serious pace lining and it kicked my butt. I had a close call when someone flew out wide for some unknown reason taking my front wheel out, I locked the back wheel up and slid around for a little and unclipping it the process. I recovered pretty quickly and was able to catch back up to the break. I didn't have much for the finish but was respectable and pulled out fifth.
Matt and Cody's field was split into D1 and D2 categories like normal and Matt had his best finish of the year. Finishing in the lead pack and pulling out a seventh and scoring Ship some D2 points.
Our hotel is a fun Ramada and smells a little like sweat and greasy chicken. We just have the crit tomorrow. Cody and Matt race at 10:30 and I race around noon. Should be another dandy day.
